Wenmar Beef Shorthorns are now able to offer, direct from centres in the UK, beef shorthorn genetics from North America, Canada and Australia. Over the last few years, we have visited farms and exhibitions in Canada and North America selecting genetics which we feel will assist in enhancing our shorthorn breed here in the UK.

Our plans for the next few years are to continue to select embryo sires and dams which we believe will enhance Beef Shorthorns over here in the UK. The show ring over here will continue to influence our selections, but it will not be the primary driver for selection. Shorthorns in our opinion are first and foremost a beef breed with strong maternal traits. Our sire and donor cow selections will always attempt to reflect this.
We have tried using sexed embryos, but the sexing process costs money and in our experience does nothing to enhance the success rate of reaching a living calf, which ultimately is the primary goal. On that basis we no longer will be offering sexed embryos, and will only be importing and offering the highest level grade one quality embryos. This policy is intended to offer our embryo customers the greatest chance for success, with living healthy calves.
We tailor the cost of our genetic packages to suit your specific requirement. Each breeding package will start off with a base cost for an embryo. You, our customer, are then able to select how far you would like us to support you through the project. The greater the support we give, will reduce your risk but will increase your overall cost.
