Donor Cows

We now own a small herd of very select Beef Shorthorn donor cows out in Canada. The cows are all owned in a partnership and reside in Saskatchewan, Western Canada. They live on a farm and rear calves naturally for the vast majority of their productive lives. We are not using the cows every year for ET work. We are now able to offer our customers a unique opportunity to breed their own embryos.

  • Select your chosen donor cow (below)
  • Select your type of bull, that you would like to use as the sire of your embryos
  • Decide your target number of embryos you would like

We will then give you a fixed price quote, for what you would like. If you then wish to proceed, all that we will require is a deposit from you. We will then pay for and arrange everything else including embryo collection, testing and export documentation, and finally shipment into the UK.

Lady Margie 1E was purchased in a group of embryos from the USA; what a wise purchase that is turning out to have been. 1E is a full sister to the great bull Shadybrook Qantas 2B. He proved his credentials over the years at Shadybrook Farms in Quebec. We are delighted how 1E has raised her first calf 26G calving down as a 2 year old. Be sure to check her out as another one of this cow family joining our donor group in 2021. 1E although reared in Saskatchewan Canada, carries 100% Australian genetics from the renowned herds of Marellan and Royala.

Leading Lassie 5G was bought in a group of embryos at Waukaru farms sale a few years ago; she was part of a group of four. I was the underbidder on her mother at the same sale Waukaru Lassie 2024. She had the highest EPDs in the USA at that time. The sire of the embryos was Shadybrook Qantas who required no introduction to me. I have seen his stock for some years now around Canada and here in the UK. From the four embryos we were fortunate to get a very good bull calf and a heifer 5G, a dream come true! We decided to retain the heifer, 5G, and sold the bull for $10,000 who is now working with a herd in Western Canada. Leading Lady 5G is going to take some stopping in years to come. I just wish that she was over here with us in the UK.

HC Picture Perfect 2G was a real bonus for us. She was being carried by her mother when we purchased her in the autumn of 2018. 2G has the great Shadybrook Picture 201M cow as a grandmother and was sired by Waukaru Patent 8161. She has a depth and strength in her pedigree in both performance from her sire and style from her mother and grandmother. She will be a welcome addition to our donor program for those seeking a combination of both performance and style.

Hill Haven Breathtaker May 28D was added to our donor team as a heifer in the autumn of 2017. She was one of the select group of heifers being offered by Hill Haven from their Breathless and Breathtaker female lines. We have used both Breathless and her mother Breathtaker in past flushes with great results and decided to add Breathtaker May 28D to our Canadian donor team. She is a daughter of the great twice Royal show champion Hill Haven Breathtaker 35Y. Her sire was the great DF Waco 6W who has proved himself in both Canada and the US. Breathtaker May 28D is a long deep bodied cow with volume and as a bonus is aflashy colured roan like her Grandmother Breathless. In my humble opinion she is probably even better than her granny, but only time will tell.

Scotty’s Maid was purchased by us at Shadybrook’s bi-annual sale in 2016; she was the standout cow at their sale that year. She blends the best of Australian and Canadian genetics in a powerful female and produces very good impressive growth, maternal and carcass EPD’s. The sires great grandmother is the fantastic matriach cow Shadybrook Picture 201M. On the dams side of her pedigree are Australian genetics from both Maellan and Spry's.

Waukaru Red Nan 1049 was purchased by us at the Waukaru sale in 2016. She was one of the choice cows at the sale. Red Nan 1049 is a daughter of the great Waukaru Patent, and is a full sister to Waukaru Orion who has outstanding EPD's; ranked in the top 1% for weaning weights and the top 2% for yearling weights. Red Nan has outstanding style, and is long deep bodied cow with a fantastic clean shoulder, top line, good feet and legs. All of these traits with her breeding will be passed onto her offspring with which ever sire used.

Lady Margie 26G is exactly what we were looking for when we selected the breeding of 1E to Elderado. What a great heifer she is turning out to be; I can't wait to see her first calf! Using Eldorado with his depth of proven breeding from HC Free Spirit and the Melba Niam female line at Horseshoe Creek, looks to have blended well with the Australian genetics. The only question is where next to develop this strong cow family line? Maybe i will try flushing her with some Podehole Beefeater semen that I have stored in Canada. That should give two options of a possible stock sire or a new female line here in the UK.

Melita Rose 52D was added to our donor team in 2017. She was an obvious choice addition based on her development as a young heifer and her pedigree structure. Her mother Waukaru 12H Melita rose 5021 is the mother of the high performance bull Waukaru Patent 8161. Her sire Kamilaroi Meat Packer, who is a very easy fleshing bull, has produced tremendous stock in Canada and here in the UK. We implanted two embryos and produced two calves, a male and a female from the two embryos. We then selectively used the bull and have retained a daughter to develop a new cow family.

HC Sparkle Delight 20B is one of our largest and deep bodied cows in our donor team. She is from the renowned Sparkle Delight family line at Horseshoe Creek, and certainly is one of Grant Alexander's favourites. Her mother, HC FLSparkle Delight 2X, is a similar type of cow but roan, 20B's colour like as not comes from her sire Waukaru Orion 2047. Orion recorded some of the best performance figures in the US. I was lucky enough to see him on one of my visits to Waukaru. He was a bull with volume, good locomotion and a lovely nature. All of the Sparkle delight family that I have seen carry the great depth and volume that 20B exhibits. She was a great addition to our donor team.

We tried on many occasions to agree a private purchase of SBF Picture OR 42A from Shadybrook Farms. They said no every time until we were successful in persuading them in 2018. I always liked the old Picture 201M cow, but she was to precious to them and also too old for my plans; adding 42A was as close as i could get. At that time she was in calf to the great Waukaru Patent 8161, so I was lucky enough to two for the price of one; see HC Picture Perfect 2G. This year 42A has produced us another tremendous heifer 11H. Watch out for her adding to our future donors.

Shadybrook All Perfect 5E was in my mind the standout heifer at the Shadybrook sale in the autumn of 2018. Every time we walked around the sale offering she just stood out as a tremendous heifer. Her maternal side goes back to the great cow Shadybrook Picture 201M. She was sired by the great bull Spry'sAll Gold D052; what more could you ask for? 5E is a very milky cow and has proved herself as a good mother, and is now ready to enter our ET program. I have only one problem, which bull to try her with first! My thoughts are to try HC Bluebook or Podehole Beefeater.
